From humble beginnings to a thriving community of young performers
ActReel Academy started in a small studio in Sydney's inner west in 2019. What began as weekend workshops for a handful of students quickly grew into a community of young performers eager to learn the craft of screen acting. We saw a gap in drama education—most programs focused on stage performance, but the screen demands something different: subtlety, authenticity, and technical precision.
We believe screen acting education should be accessible, inclusive, and professional. Every student—regardless of background or experience—deserves expert instruction, real production experience, and the chance to see their work on screen. We're not just teaching kids to act; we're building confidence, communication skills, and creative problem-solving abilities that last a lifetime.
Unlike traditional drama schools, we focus specifically on screen performance. Students learn how cameras work, how to find their mark, how to deliver natural performances under pressure, and how film sets operate. They work with professional equipment, collaborate on real short films, and experience the entire production process from rehearsal to premiere screening.

Experienced industry professionals dedicated to nurturing young talent
Sarah is a screen actor and director with 15 years of experience in Australian film and television. After working on dozens of productions and seeing the industry's need for skilled young talent, she founded ActReel Academy to share her knowledge with the next generation. Her teaching philosophy centers on authenticity—helping students find truthful performances rather than manufactured ones.
James brings over a decade of cinematography experience from feature films, commercials, and documentaries. He teaches students how cameras see the world differently than our eyes do, and how performers can use that knowledge to their advantage. His technical expertise demystifies the camera, transforming it from an intimidating machine into a creative partner.
ACS Accredited
Maya specializes in helping young performers develop authentic, natural speaking voices and comfortable physical presence on camera. Trained in Linklater voice technique and Feldenkrais movement, she helps students release tension, find grounding, and bring their full selves to their performances. Her work forms the foundation of screen presence.
